Don’t Let Summer Chaos Derail Your Kids
Happy Thursday! You made it! 🙌
In my part of the world, we’re heading into the final stretch of the school year – and the countdown to summer is ON.
Everyone says they love summer for its relaxed schedules and anything-goes attitude… so why are so many kids (and parents) already falling apart?
Here’s the thing: while we think we want total freedom, what we actually need is structure with breathing room. When routines vanish completely, kids feel untethered – and reentry in August gets a whole lot harder.
So here’s your summer sanity tip: Instead of tossing routines out the window, use summer’s slower pace to build independence. Let your kids practice parts of their morning routine now that there’s time to be inefficient. Instead of letting them sleep late, let them get up at the usual time and try doing things solo: picking out an outfit, brushing teeth, or even making their own breakfast (yes, even if it’s a mess).
It might take longer. That’s the point. They’re learning, and you’re teaching them how to move through time without a meltdown.
